Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler are back and already making noise at the box office.

Their new R-rated vampire thriller Sinners has raked in a solid $4.7 million from Thursday night previews, setting the stage for a killer weekend debut. The Sinners box office performance is already outpacing expectations, with projections ranging anywhere from $45 million to possibly over $50 million for its domestic opening. Warner Bros. is being a bit conservative, predicting a $35–$40 million haul, but early numbers are hinting at a much bigger bite.
Internationally, the film is expected to pull in another $10–$15 million, making Sinners a strong contender for one of the top horror openings of 2025. This is great news for Warner Bros., especially after the lackluster performance of The Alto Knights and Mickey 17. After a couple of stumbles, the studio has finally found its groove – first with Minecraft, which has already crossed $283 million in the U.S. and $557 million globally, and now with Sinners set to follow suit.

Sinners stars Jordan in a double role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their Southern hometown post-WWI only to uncover a terrifying vampire presence. The movie brings together a powerhouse cast, including Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Jack O’Connell, and Wunmi Mosaku. It’s the fifth time Jordan and Coogler have teamed up, following hits like Fruitvale Station, Creed, and both Black Panther films. Their creative partnership clearly still has teeth.
There’s major hype surrounding Sinners, not just because of the genre, but because of how Jordan and Coogler have reimagined the vampire mythos through a gritty, historical lens. The fact that the movie already brought in $4.7 million from just previews is a solid indicator that audiences are hungry for fresh horror with star power. If word-of-mouth stays strong, Sinners could easily sink its teeth into a massive total by the end of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Minecraft continues to dominate, aiming for $40–$45 million in its third weekend. If Sinners holds its momentum and Minecraft stays strong, Warner Bros. might just end up owning the spring box office completely.
Will Sinners live up to the hype or fade after opening weekend?
