According to reports, three anchors have also been axed from their weekend shows alongside Reid
Joy Reid and her show, The ReidOut, is leaving MSNBC amid the network’s ongoing shakeup.
On Monday, Feb. 24, MSNBC’s new president Rebecca Kulter announced that the longtime journalist, 56, would be exiting the network in a memo sent to staff.
“Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years,” Kulter wrote in a statement. “Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series.”
She added that rotating anchors will fill in Reid’s 7 p.m. ET slot in the coming weeks. Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, current hosts of The Weekend, will now move to weekdays at 7 p.m. to host a new ensemble hour of news.
The ReidOut became an evening mainstay on MSNBC since its 2020 inception and saw the political commentator hold extensive interviews with politicians and other public figures.
After reports of the newscast’s cancellation began circulating over the weekend, Reid addressed the speculation in a statement shared to BlueSky and Instagram just after midnight prior to the memo.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” Reid said. “So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time.”
The news of Reid’s departure comes hours after longtime NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt announced he would be exiting the show this summer after more than 10 years.
